ABOUT
Capt. Peter Douma
Peter has been fishing the waters around Montauk his entire life. He aims to help everyone, from the beginner to the veteran, catch more fish and bigger fish while learning something new and having fun. After college he went into the craft brewing industry but never lost his interests in fishing and stayed involved whether it be through shows for Century fishing rods, writing articles, and tying and designing custom flies for himself and others. He later took a job at Streams of Dreams fly shop, where he still works today.

BOAT AND GEAR
Boat
New for 2020! This year I will be running a Pathfinder 23DV Center Console. This extremely sought after boat is a perfect platform and incredibly comfortable. It's deep-v hull design eats up chop and stays dry, while it's level deck and 360 degree gunnel padding makes it very comfortable all day long. Outfitted with the newest in Furuno Radar and electronics and Yamaha 4 stroke power, it's a fishing machine.
Gear
FLY
We use only the highest quality rods, reels, and lines from companies like R.L. Winston Fly Rods, Seigler Reels, and Monic Fly Line. Weights range from 8-12 weight and lines from floating to various sink rates. All flies are custom tied and tested for our fishery by me.
(If you would like to bring your own gear, please ask what to bring before your trip)
Spinning
The spinning rod of choice on my boat is the Century Weapon. This graphene reinforced rod is the strongest, most versatile, and best casting inshore rod I have ever used. It handles everything from small albie jigs to over 3oz plugs. Paired with a van staal reel, these rods do everything we encounter. We carry ample tackle including custom plugs for every condition
THE FISHERY
Montauk is located at the eastern end of Long Island, making it a superhighway of fish. Block Island the surreounding islands are an easy trip away and offshore fishing is close by.
-Striped Bass usually show up in late April and hang around into December. While fall may be the most famous bite in Montauk, Spring and Summer offer the best chances at large fish
- Bluefish are a lot like stripers with their migrating schedule. Typically around the same times with big fish around throughout the year. In Summer they can even be found on the flats
- False Albacore have recently become the most chased fish for the Montauk fly fisherman in the Fall. With the influx of white bait around expect to see albies (and there cousins usually slightly earlier) around the last week of August into Early November
- Tuna, Mahi, etc. While these may not be the main targeted species Montauk offers some outstanding Mahi-Mahi fishing in the summer as well as a shot for Tuna in the fall and spring on the fly.
